Tembusu

Family: Gentianaceae

  • The Tembusu (Fagraea fragrans) is a large tree with dark brown cracked bark.
  • The trunk can be made into chopping boards as it is a very hard wood.
  • The fruits of the tree is bitter and is eaten by fruit bats.
  • The tree is featured on the Singapore five dollar bill.
