- It is the floral emblem for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of People's Republic of China, you can see the emblem on its flag and coins.
- Some people call the leaf "clever leaf", using them as book marks, in the hope that it will assist them to study well.
- The leaf is shaped in similar to shape like a heart or a butterfly, thus the other common name: Butterfly tree.
- Although the flower looks like an orchid, this tree actually belongs to the pea family.
